When buying a slow cooker, one of the most important factors to consider is the material the appliance is built of. The highest consideration should go to the material that the inner pot is made of, since it’s the part that your food will come in direct touch with as it cooks.

Slow cookers can have inner pots that are:

  • coated in non-stick Teflon,
  • non-stick Ceramic,
  • or made of stainless steel.

Out of these, Teflon is the most concerning, as it can be a toxic material if it starts to peel off. For that reason, Ceramic coating is preferred as it is as easy to clean as Teflon, but without any health concerns.

The majority of cookers have aluminum nonstick coating (Teflon), but we were able to find at 4  highly rated rice cookers that have Ceramic inner pots.

In the world of electronic appliances, a lot of trust comes with a Japanese brand or Japan made product. You just simply know that they’re going to be well made and well worth your money.

When it comes to rice cookers, there is a wide range of brands, models and features that are available for as little as $30 and upwards $200 (or even $500). That’s an insane range of prices. But since you’ve made the decision to go for a Japanese made rice cooker, that narrows down your search.

The Best Japanese Brands for Rice Cookers

There are two particular Japanese brands that we trust with rice cookers, Zojirushi and Tiger. Zojirushi is a 90-years old Japanese brand that started by selling vacuum sealed bottles, and it’s still famous for them. It has expanded to manufacturing many household appliances, including rice cookers of course. Funny enough, Tiger, just like Zojirushi, is a Japanese brand that started with Vacuum bottles back in 1920s, and it has expanded to become one of Japan’s leading brands ever since.

It is worth mentioning that not all Japanese brands manufacture their rice cookers in Japan. Actually, even the brands we just mentioned, don’t make all their appliances in Japan. That’s why we’re handing-picking the rice cookers we know are made in Japan. If you choose another model, do check if it is made in Japan before you make your purchase.

  • The Tiger JAX-T10U-K does not have induction heating like Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH, but it does offer multiple programs like it.
  • The Zojirushi NP-HCC10XH has more specific programs like Germinated Brown rice, Jasmine Rice or GABA Brown settings, which give you precise cooking metrics for these type of rice grains. The Tiger cooker cooks all those grains under one single setting called ‘Multi-grain’.
  • Both cookers are available in 5.5 cups and 10-cup capacity.
  • The Tiger, although it has less features, makes an affordable choice for a ‘Made in Japan’ appliance. Going for the same features from Zojirushi, which refers to model NS-TSC10, you get a China made appliance. Which puts the Tiger JAX-T10U-K at a great position for a non-induction rice cooker that is made in Japan.

Why Are Japanese Rice Cookers More Expensive Than Other Cookers?

At the beginning of this post, we said that the price of rice cooking can vary tremendously. Why can one rice cooker be sold for $20 to $30 while others cost over a $100? Obviously, there’s a clear difference between these cookers, and that is the technology.

With a cheap or basic rice cooker, the appliance performs simple tasks, it brings the water to boil, then it starts to steam and reduce. A thermostat controls this temperature control to mimic traditional rice making on a stove. There are no time pre-sets, no functions, no temperature settings. But there’s a major problem with this:

  • Not all rice and grain types cook at the same time and same temperature.

With the more expensive rice cookers, namely Zojirushi and Tiger, have Fuzzy Logic and Automatic Cooking Logic. These technologies is why the rice cookers cost what they cost. Thanks to these technology features, whatever type of rice you’re cooking, the appliance’s smart feature will adjust the cooking time or temperature to bring you consistent results every time. It doesn’t matter if you make a mistake (add less or more water, miss up the rice measurement a bit), your mistakes are fixed with such technology.

So if you’re cooking one type of rice only, you’re probably fine with a low-cost rice cooker. But if you want a rice cooker that will actually help you make a variety of delicious meals, and one that will do the work for you, you’ll want a cooker with these technologies.

These both appliances by Breville are an excellent choice for making a great variety of meals and foods. Both are also a multi-purpose appliance, where they differ is in the purpose they serve:

  • The Fast Slow Pro is a combination of a slow cooker and pressure cooker.
  • The Risotto Plus is a slow cooker and a rice cooker.

That’s the main difference in what they do. But there are many other differences as well:

Cook Functions:

  • The Fast Slow Pro has 11 pressure cooking settings and a custom option for you to set your own settings. Slow cooking varies from 2 to 12 hours. And you can also use it for sauteing, steaming, searing and reducing food, as well as keeping food warm. The Fast Slow Pro also has automatic steam release that changes based on the food setting you choose.
  • The Risotto Plus, as its name would indicate, specializes in Risotto making. Risotto is a hearty meal that is simple to make but requires constant stirring and supervision. The Risotto Plus has a special pre set to prepare Risotto hands-free and automatically without the need for stirring. But that’s not all it does. You can use it as a rice cooker, steaming, for searing, reducing and sauteing. It also has a Keep Warm function.

Controls:

  • The Fast Slow Pro has a color changing LCD screen that changes in color depending on whether the cooker is pressurizing, cooking or releasing steam. It has a variety of food to choose from for automatic settings, or you can enter your own settings.

  • The Risotto Plus does not have a display, but a dedicated button for each cooking function. Since it does not have any custom settings, you only need to press a button and hit start to activate the pre-sets.

Materials:

Breville is known for using only premium materials in its appliances:

  • Both cookers have brushed stainless steel exterior housing.
  • The bowl on the Fast Slow Pro has PTFE and PFOA free ceramic coating. And as it is a pressure cooker, too, the lid is stainless steel with a 3-way safety system. It is also dishwasher safe.
  • On the Risotto Plus, the bowl is aluminum with nonstick coating. The lid is glass with a steam vent.

Accessories:

  • The Fast Slow Pro comes with a stainless steel basket and a rack.
  • The Risotto Plus includes a stainless steel tray, a measuring cup and a serving spoon.

Instant Pot IP-DUO60 is quite comparable to Breville’s Fast Slow Pro in the sense that both are pressure cookers and slow cookers too.

  • Instant Pot has 7 main functions: Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Saute/Browning, Yogurt Maker, Steamer & Warmer
  • It has 14 Micro-Processor controlled programs: Soup, Meat/Stew, Bean/Chili, Poultry, Sauté, Steam, Rice, Porridge, Multigrain, Slow Cook, Keep-Warm, Yogurt, Pasteurize and Fermented Rice
  • Like the Breville, it allows you to use custom settings.
  • It is available in different sizes: 5, 6 or 8 quart.
  • The cooking bowl on the Instant Pot is a 3-ply stainless steel pot.
  • It has automatic steam release function that depend on the type of food you select.
  • The control display on the Instant Pot shows only basic information like time and numbers for selected settings. Otherwise, it has a dedicated button for each food type/program.

Like we said, these two units are quite comparable. But there are some differences:

Cooking functions of both are almost the same. Only the Instant Pot has a Yogurt Maker function that the Breville Fast Slow cooker doesn’t have.

The pre set functions on the units are:

  • Breville Fast Slow Pro: Vegetables, Rice, Risotto, Soup, Stock, Beans, Poultry, Meat, Bone-In Meat, Chili/Stew, Dessert.
  • Instant Pot: Soup, Meat/Stew, Bean/Chili, Poultry, Sauté, Steam, Rice, Porridge, Multigrain, Slow Cook, Keep-Warm, Yogurt, Pasteurize and Fermented Rice

Controls:

  • The control panel on the Breville Fast Slow Pro is quite amazing and easy to uses. The LCD display is clear and makes it a breeze to set your settings using the dial knobs. It helps that the display changes color in accordance to the process, which helps you know at what stage your food is with a quick glance.
  • On the Instant Pot, there are lots of buttons to press. Although it is easy when it comes to using a pre set button, it can become a hassle when programming a custom setting.

Pressure Settings:

  • On the Breville Fast Slow Pro, you can select from 11 pressure settings, plus a custom setting.
  • On the Instant Pot, your pressure settings are limited to High Pressure or Low Pressure

These three picks for a personal blender seem to vary in features and prices. Although, ultimately, they perform the same task of creating smoothies and drinks in personal tumblers. Yet, each model includes different amount of accessories, has different motor power and blade styles that could lead to a variety of consistencies.

  • The Breville To Go is the most expensive out of the bunch. It has a solid heavy duty die-cast base that the other blenders don’t have. The blades and bowls (the fittings that hold the cups into the blender) are all stainless steel, so they’re really durable and unlikely to break. It also has a uniquely designed cups with smooth edge rims (kind of similar to any of your regular cups), so you can drink right out of the cup without the need to place a lid, and you won’t feel any threads or notches around the rim. The Boss To Go includes two tumblers, 23 oz and 16 oz capacity, both come with a travel lid.
  • The NutriBullet is the most popular out of the three, and it does pack the most value. Although it has less power, 600-watts, in comes packed with accessories that makes it more than just a blender. It has two different blade styles, 1 flat blade and 1 emulsifying blade. It includes a total of 3 cups, 2 short cups and 1 tall cup, but it packs only 2 lids. The largest cup capacity is 24 oz.
  • The Nutri-Ninja has the same power as the Breville Boss To Go, 1000-watts. Also, it is the only one out of the three blenders that has speed options. With its iQ Technology, which combines timed pulsing, blending and pausing patterns to create the best consistency, you can choose to Blend, which is best for fruit based smoothies, Ultra Blend, which is best for green leaves and gives you a juice like consistency and you can Pulse. These iQ options start an automatic timer that stops when the right consistency has been reached, so you don’t have to figure out how long to blend your ingredients, it’s done for you. It includes a total of 3 tumblers, one 32 oz and two 24 oz. So it has the largest cups out of the bunch.

Common Questions

Can You Buy Extra Tumblers For These Personal Blenders?

If you think you might need additional tumblers than the ones included with your purchase, you can buy them separately for the NutriBullet and for the Nutri Ninja. As of the time of writing this post, Breville Boss to Go doesn’t have tumblers to buy separately.

Since the Nutri Ninja only includes large 24 oz and 32 oz tumblers, you can buy smaller cups separately, available in sizes 18 oz and 16 oz.

Can I Crush Ice With These Blenders?

Yes, with all the blenders listed above, you can include ice to your ingredients. However, for a more flavorful cup, we recommend that you use frozen fruits instead of ice when possible. Ice dilutes your drink while frozen fruit will cool your drink while adding more flavor.

Can Personal Blenders Be Used For Tasks Other Than Blending Smoothies?

This is a great question, and the answer depends on what model you go for. Overall, it is not recommended that you use your Personal Blender for anything other than preparing drinks and smoothies. This is because many of them can’t run for a long time without overheating. So if whatever food you want to blend only needs a quick blend (less than a minute), you can use it for that task, if you need to run it longer, then it is not recommended.

Anyway, you have to always check with your manual first as every appliance is different and you don’t want to do anything that could potentially ruin your blend or void your warranty.

Review of the Nutri Ninja with iQ Technology:

Choosing the right product for your need can be quite difficult, especially when all products look the same and are all highly rated. When it comes to electric tea makers, the task is still a little confusing. The first question that comes to mind is, is there actually a difference between an electric kettle and an electric tea maker? The answer is yes, there’s quite a difference. You can read our full answer here.

The other thing is, the rather wide range in prices for seemingly similar products. Why are some electric kettles over $200 and others under a $100? Is the most expensive necessarily the best? This is what we’ll try to get down to in this comparison post. We’ll look at the features of the best rated electric tea makers to help you understand which is possibly the right one for you.

If you’ve read the features of all the tea makers above, you’ll find they’re all quite similar in features and design, but some stand out more than others.

  • The Breville One-Touch Tea Maker is the only truly automated tea maker out of the bunch. It is the only tea maker that automatically inserts and raises the tea filter without you doing anything but pushing a button. What does this mean for you? It means you can actually step away from the tea maker to do other things while your tea is being automatically prepared at the right time and temperature. While with other tea makers, you have to wait for the water to reach the right temperature first, insert the tea basket and set the timer yourself. This is a huge advantage for the Breville One-Touch. Another advantage for the Breville is its custom settings. Although it has pre-sets different tea types, it still allows you to override them and enter your own temperature and timer settings. Let’s not forget that the Breville is the only tea maker with auto start function. Yes, it can make you tea while you’re still in bed!
  • Mr Coffee and Cuisinart Tea makers also have pre-sets on them, which is quite convenience. But these temperature settings cannot be changed.
  • The Chefman Tea Maker allows you to freely choose from different temperature settings in a range of 10 settings that increase in 10-degree increments. However, you have to know what temperature is the right one for the type of tea you’re making.
  • The Keep Warm function is a great feature for holding the temperature of your tea so you can enjoy it for a longer time. Fortunately, all tea makers listed above have this feature. And all of them hold the temperature for up to 60 minutes, except for the Cuisinart which holds it for 30 minutes.

Which Automatic Tea Maker Is Best To Buy?

It looks like, in the case of these automatic tea makers, the most expensive one is the best. We’re talking about the Breville One-Touch, of course. It comes with a hefty price, but it offers features that are twice as powerful, too:

  • When it says Automatic tea brewing, it really means it. It’s the only one with automatic insertion and removal of tea filter. This also allows it to automatically start brewing process at any time you give it.
  • It takes the guess work out of tea making with pre sets for each tea type, that includes temperature and steep time settings. And they can all be reprogrammed to your taste.
  • It has Taste settings (Strong, Medium, Mild), this basically refers to steep time, but it is easier for you to choose how you want your tea to taste and the tea maker will automatically set the timer to achieve the desired taste.

If the Breville One-Touch happens to be out of your budget, our second recommendation will be the Mr. Coffee Hot Tea Maker, because:

  • It has the same high-quality glass as the Breville.
  • It has pre-set temperatures for tea types, although they cannot be customized.
  • You can however customize the steep time to control the strength of your tea.

Are There Any Plastic Parts In These Automated Tea Makers?

  • Many people are concerned over plastic parts that come in contact with hot liquid in many appliances, tea makers are no exception.
  • All tea makers featured above have some plastic parts in  them that do come in contact with the hot water (in the filter or the lid/spout). However, all of these plastics are BPA-Free.
  • Unfortunately, it seems it is almost impossible to find an appliance that is fully metal or without plastic parts. But we do make sure that we feature products that are at least BPA-free (according to their manufacturers).

Wheatgrass is known for its incredible benefits when drank as a juice, and many people like to include it as an ingredient in their green juicers, or drink it on its own as a shot. Yet, Wheatgrass remains a very tricky ingredient to juice, and not just any juicer is up for this job.

When juicing Wheatgrass, you have two options:

  • Use a manual juicer that is made for juicing wheatgrass (which is going to be a workout on its own).
  • Or use a slow juicer. These type of juicers have the ability to juice any vegetable, fruit or green leaves – including wheatgrass, without any issues.

Best Juicer For Juicing Wheatgrass:

  • Yields high volumes of juice, more than traditional juicers.

If you and your family enjoy a hearty meal of Pasta, then a pasta maker is probably a must-have appliance in your kitchen. Pasta isn’t necessarily a hard thing to make fresh, but it is certainly time consuming. That’s why an automatic pasta maker like Philips’ would save you a lot of time and effort in your pasta-making task. In this post, we’ll have a look at the Philips Pasta Maker and compare it to the Philips Smart Pasta Maker as well as KitchenAid’s.

Features of the Philips Pasta Maker:

  • Fully automatic fresh pasta maker.
  • Automatic mixing, kneading and extruding of pasta.
  • Makes a pound of fresh pasta or noodles in 15 minutes.
  • Add additional ingredients like spinach, carrot juice or herbs for a more flavorful and nutritious pasta.
  • Includes 4  shaping discs for Spaghetti, Penne, Fettuccini and Lasagna.
  • Additional discs can be purchased separately.
  • Integrated drawer for storing shaping discs.
  • Specially designed cleaning tool matching the shaping discs makes cleaning them a one-push button.
  • Includes a recipe book with over 20 pasta recipes

Philips Pasta Maker vs. Smart Pasta Maker, Is There a Difference Between Them?

The Smart Pasta maker is the deluxe version of the Pasta Maker, both made by Philips. The Smart Pasta Maker has two extra features:

  • It has a built-in scale that weighs the flour and then tells you how much water and egg you need to add.
  • It includes a total of 8 discs for penne, fettuccine, spaghetti, lasagna/dumpling, angel hair, thick spaghetti, tagliatelle and pappardelle.

The Smart Pasta Maker is available exclusively at Williams-Sonoma and you can buy it by clicking here.

Philips Compact Pasta Maker (Viva Collection), Is It Different?

The Compact version of the Pasta Maker is just as its name refers, is simply a smaller version. It does the same thing as the Pasta Maker:

  • It has automatic mixing, kneading and extruding.
  • Makes one pound of pasta in few minutes
  • Integrated storage drawer.
  • Recipe book.

The only difference, other than its size, is that it comes with 3 discs for shaping spaghetti, fettuccine and penne.

Philips Pasta Maker vs. KitchenAid – What Is The Difference?

If you’re an owner of a KitchenAid stand mixer, then you probably know of a wide variety of attachments available for it, including many Pasta maker attachments such as the Pasta Extruder pictured above. So, what is a better a choice? the KitchenAid attachment (may it be a pasta roller, extruder or any one of them), or the Philips Pasta Maker?

If you already have the KitchenAid stand mixer, then your first instinct would be to get an attachment instead of buying a whole new appliance, but here’s what you have to keep in mind:

  • When using the KitchenAid attachment, you still have to make the pasta dough yourself. The attachments will automatically roll or extrude the dough, but you still have to prepare the dough before. While with the Philips Pasta Maker, you will add all the ingredients to the machine and it will do it all, mixing, kneading and extruding… basically the whole process is automated.

The KitchenAid Pasta Extruder attachment includes 6 shaping discs, enough to make a good variety of pasta. But if you prefer to automate the entire task of pasta making, we recommend you get the Philips Pasta Maker instead.

The two faucets are a lot similar to each other, in design and function. However, there are features in faucet that make them stand apart:

  • The Moen Align has a dramatic height to it, around 22″ height in its arch, which gives you a lot of space to move large cookware under it. It also has more hose reach, up to 4x any other competitive residential faucet of the same type. And last but not least, it has PowerClean function, which gives it 50% more spray power than any other Moen faucet.
  • The Delta Trinsic doesn’t have the same height as the Moen, but it’s still high enough at 18 3/4″. It has a great MagnaTite feature, which is an integrated magnet in the dock that brings the hose back up and holds it in its space when not in use.

Since both faucets are sold at around the same price range, we’re leaning towards the Moen faucet for its arch height, which will make all the difference for anyone who uses large pots and cookware. The PowerClean feature of the spray is great, too. Who doesn’t want a powerful spray that will push down stubborn mess and clean the dishes faster.

What Is The Difference Between SKG vs. Omega Slow Juicers?

TitleSKG New Generation Wide Chute Anti-Oxidation Slow Masticating Juicer (240W AC Motor, 60 RPMs, 3" Inches Big Mouth) - Vertical Masticating Cold Press JuicerOmega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer - Black and Chrome
FeatureLow Speed Minimal Oxidation Masticating Juicer - Compared with juice from centrifugal juicers, our juice is much more nutritious, tastes better and fresher, and lasts longer. Top Quality 240W AC motor with low speed of 60 RPMs (the golden ratio of force and time) - Squeezes ingredients with minimal oxidation, preserving natural taste & nutrients lost by high-speed centrifugal juicers that grind, crush, and heat (from the fast-rotating blade).
3" Inches (76MM) Big Mouth Wide Chute - can easily accommodate large produce items; has more resistances to clogging; greatly reduces preparation and cleanup time - Less chopping of the ingredients also helps to reduce oxidation, as the bigger pieces of ingredients, the harder they get oxidized.
High Juice Yield with Little Oxidation - High juice yield (Orange 85-90%, Pear 78-83%, Apple 65-75%, Celery 65-70%, Carrot 42-47%) - The strainer base and the valve provide a sealed space to hold juice during juicing to prevent oxidation. The valve should be shut during juicing.
23 LBS Heavy-Weight High-Quality Anti-Oxidation Build - All parts (the stainless steel, the silicone components and the PEI juicing screw) are made of high quality TRITAN food grade anti-oxidation materials. The product is certified by FDA, UL, ETL, GS, CE, and ROHS. - Sleek Design and Piano Varnish - Sturdy handle for easy moving and cleaning of the 23 lbs heavy-weight juicer - Comes in a premium quality gift box.

  • As an appliance, both SKG and Omega are the same, they are slow juicer (also known as masticating juicers). However, SKG works with a slower speed than the Omega, 60 RPM vs. 80 RPM. Which means, the SKG will yield more juice with less oxidation.
  • Design wise, the SKG is a vertical juicer, which means it takes less counter top space. The Omega is a horizontal juicer that could take up a lot of space on your counter top, and it’s certainly harder to stash away.
  • The SKG has a wide 3” chute, which means, you don’t have to cut your ingredients to small pieces before hand, eliminating the dreaded prep time. The Omega juicer has a small chute that requires you cut down your ingredients before hand.
  • One of the biggest advantages an Omega juicer has is the fact that it is a multi-purpose appliance. It’s not only a juicer, but thanks to its attachments, it can make nut butters, nut milks, it can make pasta, grind coffee beans and more. The SKG is mainly a juicer only, but has an attachment for turning frozen fruit into a delicious sorbet.
  • The spout on the SKG has a cap that keeps any juice from dripping. The Omega juicer does not have this, so you should expect some counter space mess and juice dripping.

Which One To Buy?

Of course, like we always say, the ultimate choice is yours to make. But we like to point out a few things to help you out with your decision:

  • At first glance, you might think that the Omega gives you a lot of value for your money because of its multi-functionality. But do you really need all these functions out of your juicer? It’s all great and can be helpful for finishing up tasks in your kitchen, but also, using the same appliance for many different tasks could lead to a shorter lifespan of that appliance.
  • The SKG Juicer, although it’s nearly at the same price as the Omega, but can only function as juicer, has a better built and more modern design. It is slow, so it yields more juice, and because of its large chute, there’s little to no prep time. So you’ll be saving in your grocery shopping, save on prep time and do less clean up.

The Cooking Pot:

  • Cuckoo’s rice pot has one of the best designs you’ll see in a rice cooker. It is certainly built to last. It is made of full stainless steel with a curved design. The curve allows even distribution of the heat during the cooking process, which gives you better results.
  • It also has two layers of coating. The stainless steel non-stick coating and an exterior Air Bubble Coating which allows the pot to quickly conduct heat but also protects the pot from damaging IH coils.

How Smart Is Cuckoo IH Cooker?

Cuckoo Electronics, with an experience of over 39 years, was able to develop a smart algorithm system that allows to get the exact taste and texture of rice you really desire.

Thanks to its DSP Chip, Cuckoo cooker controls the pressure and heat by the minute to deliver the right taste and texture for each dish.
You will get the best results for each grain of rice you choose, every single time.

Other Great Features:

  • Auto – Clean Steam system is one of the most useful features you’ll find in your Cuckoo cooker. With a push of a button, a strong jet of steam is released to clean and sanitize the interior of your rice cooker. Another steam vent releases steam after cooking to prevent bacteria and odor from occurring.
  • A thermal fuse prevents the cooker from overheating, But in the case that happens, an alarm for overheating activates for your safety.
  • A slow open mechanism of the lid opens the lid slowly, which prevents it from easily breaking.
  • Multi-cook function allows you to prepare food other than rice like meat and poultry, vegetables and more. Baking function allows you to bake in the same cooker, too.

Is The Cuckoo CRP-DHSR0609F Worth Its Price?

This model of Cuckoo rice cooker comes with a hefty price that makes you wonder, is it worth it?

The Cuckoo Cooker is the first in the world with Induction Heating as Pressure cooking as powerful as 2 Atm. It is Made in Korea, and if there’s one thing Korean-made products are known for, it is top-notch quality.

Cuckoo’s Smart Algorithm ensures that you are getting the absolute best result for the type of grain you’re cooking. And the design of the quality of the cooking pot ensure that you get a full pot of perfect rice as quick as possible by evenly distributing the heat. The second layer of the pot protects it from being damaged by the IH coils, which ensures its durability.

Apart from rice, you can use your Cuckoo to cook delicious and tender meats and poultry or steam vegetables. You can also bake in it, making it a multi-cooking appliance.

Now, let’s talk about GABA Rice, one of the hardest rice grain to cook! Cuckoo ensures that it can deliver fresh, soft and absolutely tasty GABA rice that cannot be compared to other brand results.

Of course, here we are comparing the Cuckoo pressure cooker to Zojirushi NP-NVC10 of the same features of Induction Heating and pressure cooking.

  • The Zojirushi has a 5 1/2 cups capacity, so it is smaller by only half a cup.
  • It features AI Fuzzy Technology which “learns” and adjusts the cooking cycle to get perfect results every time. The adjustments are made after each cycle, so the results improve with use. While Cuckoo’s Smart Algorithm adjusts by the minute.
  • Zojirushi’s cooking pot is nonstick and infused with platinum particles which contribute to the process of rice cooking to result in a better taste.
  • Zojirushi has a special ‘Umami’ setting. Umami is known as the 5th taste in Japan. In this setting, the rice is soaked in water longer than other settings, which releases sugars from the rice into a water. Once the cooking starts, that released sugar reattaches itself onto the surface of the rice, which results in a sweeter tasting rice.
  • Overall, Zojirushi has a total of 5 cooking settings.
  • It has press button controls.
  • Made in Japan (some are made in China – check before you buy!)

Which Is Best To Buy?

Here’s what you’re getting if you choose the Cuckoo over the Zojirushi:

  • 17 cooking setting and not just 5. Cuckoo has a Bake setting, too, which the Zojirushi doesn’t have.
  • Cooking pot fully stainless steel with a protective layer that keeps it safe from the IH coils and ensures durability. Zojirushi’s pot does not have a protective layer, which can lead to it scratching or breaking from the IH coils.
  • Automated Self Cleaning on the Cuckoo is not to be underestimated. After a while of use, rice cookers can accumulate a lot of bacteria and germs if not cleaned properly. The cleaning steam vents take care of that automatically.
  • Cuckoo’s Smart Algorithm System controls the heat and pressure by the minute to give you the results you want for each type of grain of rice. On the other hand, Zojirushi’s AI system learns from each use how you prefer your settings and adjusts itself with time, so you won’t see results immediately.

Which one we prefer? Certainly Cuckoo’s Rice Cooker. We realize that it comes with a big price tag, but an appliance like this one lasts for a decade and more, so it’s definitely a good investment.

  • Tiger IH Cooker is a 5 1/2 cups capacity cooker.
  • It has 11 cooking settings, which includes Synchro-Cooking function that allows you to cook two things at a time.
  • Other options include jasmine, brown, mixed, porridge, slow cook, oatmeal, and bread baking function.
  • Micom technology monitors the cooking temperature to create the perfect meal every time.
  • Multi-layer ceramic coated cooking pot.
  • Made in Japan.

Which Is Best To Buy?

  • Again, this cooker by Tiger lacks the important self-cleaning steam vents of Cuckoo that make cleaning the cooking pot a breeze.
  • The pot of  Tiger cooker has nonstick ceramic coating, which is good. But not as good as the stainless steel that Cuckoo has. Overtime, the Ceramic will start to lose its non-stick capability or might scratch if used with some hard utensils.
  • One of the great features of Tiger Cooker is Synchro-Cook function, which allows you to cook a side dish in addition to the rise. You can only cook two things at a time using this function, so if you prefer your rice to be cooked using another setting, which might result in better rice, you’ll lose the ability to cook two things at a time. Synchro-cook is a great function, but it limits your rice cooking to this one option only, and you might just end up not use it.
  • This Tiger model bakes bread, same as Cuckoo. Also, it uses induction heating but it does not have pressure cooking function.
