When buying a slow cooker, one of the most important factors to consider is the material the appliance is built of. The highest consideration should go to the material that the inner pot is made of, since it’s the part that your food will come in direct touch with as it cooks.
Slow cookers can have inner pots that are:
- coated in non-stick Teflon,
- non-stick Ceramic,
- or made of stainless steel.
Out of these, Teflon is the most concerning, as it can be a toxic material if it starts to peel off. For that reason, Ceramic coating is preferred as it is as easy to clean as Teflon, but without any health concerns.
